The Horthy offer–to release various groups of Jews from Budapest to safety–was still on the table. The WRB, having received confirmation that the offer was not just a rumor, and set about trying to convince the British to accept. The British were much more nervous. After all, what if Horthy actually released 40,000 Jews? Where would they go? Palestine would not be an option, so the WRB should consider other places.   This reaction, obviously, frustrated the WRB a great deal, and we’ll see in a few days what the WRB actually proposed as a response.
