There are so many fun and interesting people who play a role in this story. One was young Mary Harriet Bixler. She was in her early 20s, born in Beirut, with a university president father and a secretarial course under her belt. She was hired by the WRB to travel to Turkey (along with the much older government secretary Virginia Henderson) to act as a secretary for Hirschmann and Herbert Katzki.  David White, one of the WRB’s admin guys (he worked with payroll, employment, and bureaucratic logistics) took a non-romantic liking to her and she wrote him friendly letters about how she was getting on in Turkey.
