The SS Christina was a cargo ship that ran aground in the south of France in the spring of 1944. It was carrying hundreds of thousands of packages for POWs which were submerged in the water for a significant period of time, long enough that they were deemed “unfit” for POWs. The WRB arranged for any material that could be salvaged to be sent to Switzerland, repackaged, and distributed to concentration camps. It took until November 1944 for the WRB to actually get a report on the amount of material and distribution, but it’s still interesting to read what the packages consisted of and the administrative decisions involved in the distribution.
