The documents that are generally the most interesting to me are the ones that show real life: the WRB staff hoping to score some scotch with the help of Bloomingdales, the personal letters that show real relationships, and internal praise and criticism.
This letter, from Ambassador Steinhardt to the embassy staff, complained that while the Ambassador was in the United States for consolation, Ira Hirschmann had been using the ambassador’s office without permission. I love this story because it is so Hirschmann. Of course he would do something like that.
