On March 22nd, the WRB records finally reveal that the staff, in Washington and abroad, have finally learned of the terrible events in Hungary.  Pehle, had been just waiting for FDR to decide it was the right time to release the statement on atrocities, which the WRB had been arguing for since the agency’s inception. At the last minute, in light of the new occupation of Hungary, Pehle pulled the text back to insert one more paragraph.  It’s really a turning point for the WRB, since they now have an emergency on which to focus.
