On Saturday, July 15th, in addition to their regular weekly report, the WRB staff wrote a secret report, released only to Secretaries Hull, Stimson, and Morgenthau detailing their attempts to save the Jews of Hungary. If you consider the fact that it had been less than four months since the occupation of Hungary and that the WRB had no eyes or ears within the country, it’s a pretty impressive list of considerations, ideas, and small accomplishments. But the forces working against the Hungarian Jews were stronger and more powerful than the forces working for them.  Unbeknownst to the WRB, the massive Hungarian deportations have already ended.
