While everything else is going on in the WRB offices, they had requested and received additional funds from the President’s Emergency Fund to purchase and ship 300,000 relief packages for the Red Cross to distribute in concentration camps.  A Red Cross ship was leaving the port of Philadelphia at the end of August, and if the WRB hurried, they could get some of the packages on the ship.  The American Red Cross couldn’t fulfill the order on such short notice, so the Joint helped the WRB find two commercial relief package companies who prepared 5,000 and 10,000 packages respectively so they could get to the docks in time.
