I can’t remember whether we’ve covered Charles Joy and his ill-fated advisory committee. Joy, one of the heads of the Unitarian Service Committee, formed a committee of left-leaning international advisors for the WRB. They got some minor funds for this work, and submitted ideas for rescue and relief. Most of these ideas, though, were obvious, came from other (free) sources, or were impossible. By May, the WRB would not disburse any more funds (I think they got about $500 in total) and the committee disbanded. This one, a proposal to bring Yugoslav teachers and students to the United States, is not a terrible idea, but there are so many practical problems to it. From transport, to finding places in the US, to security, to funding this, it really seems as though there were probably better ways to spend one’s limited rescue and relief time and funds than this idea.
